Why a B/W Optical Sensor instead of standard CCTV camera?

The following pictures show clearly the difference in contrast as a result of a filtered spectrum range and in resolution as a result of purpose-selected CCD for the application "smoke detection".
Picture made by OSS of the FireWatch system
Picture made by specialized Optical Sensor of the „FireWatch“ system
(distance to the factory in the foreground ca. 6 km; distance to the small tower at the horizon ca. 18 km).
 Picture made by CCT camera
The same picture made by state-of-the-art CCTV camera
(the factory is not clear observable, the tower at horizon line is not visible).

The detection results with the b/w sensor of the purpose-designed Optical Sensor of the "FireWatch" system are much higher and clearer and so, the scanned area can be much larger. Especially important for night vision - it gives the “Fire Watch” Optical Sensor a resolution which is 4 times larger than CCTV cameras.
