Why FireWatch instead of other technologies?

A Spectroscope have good detection results by day if the smoke cross the very small beam. No detection during the night as well as in mountainous or hilly areas.

Why FireWatch?
Sensor networks of small size low costs heat or smoke sensors with a range of up to 500 meters are only effective for small areas or buildings. For 1,197 mi² (310,000 ha) it would take 18,600 sensors.

The Infrared technology is used to detect objects that are warmer than their surroundings. Only when the fire is in the trees, this fire in 3 to 5 km distance can be detected - too late!
FireWatch has eliminated the disadvantages of the other technologies in terms of smoke detection.
